Festival Del Sol exhibitions are not often something to be excited about but one thing never changes. That thing is the amount of work that you put into a project. So if you only look forward to one thing in exhibition it's getting to see all of your hard work paying off. What I was originally going to write about was fiction and maybe more specifically the idea of escapism. Maybe I would have written how I constantly engage in escapism and how I do so despite it maybe being an unhealthy habit. I kinda regret not writing about that now since my piece could have been more meaningful that way. But My idea changed drastically by my final draft. Instead of writing about this I changed my topic to how many cartoons meant for children are actually deep masterpieces that need to be seen regardless of the viewer's age. It really is a topic very near to me. It mostly relates to my struggle of forcing my parents to watch cartoons they probably think is just silly kid's crap then have them be surprised at how amazing they are. Namely Steven Universe, especially with it's most recent developments and musical numbers. I think that my idea changed during the 18 topics activity. I think that at the time I just realized how much I have to say in that topic. While my original idea was a bit more personal and maybe more meaningful I think that what I wrote about was still an extreme passion that I have and I'm still pretty happy that I wrote about it. Plus I might of come off as a bit angsty because I'm good at angst. So really I wasn't quite sure I wanted to write about escapism so I guess finding another good topic was my way out of that.
The feedback that I got from other students on my first few drafts wasn't very helpful. I am very confident in my writing because I know it's unique and advanced. Most of the feedback I get on my writing is just compliments or people complaining they don't understand a word or a sentence. So Dr. P's feedback was a bit more helpful, just all around improvements. I just rewrote my whole piece. I didn't do this from frustration to the amount of feedback but because I just wanted my piece to be as good as it could be. I think that the biggest changes that I made to my draft where those on it's length. Like I said before, I wrote about something that I am passionate about. So when you write about something you're passionate about you tend to write an enormous amount of content. So I had to cut a lot off my story and even then it's one of the longest in the book. Other than that most of the changes made were minor, a little tweaking the content and grammar. I'm still happy with my piece despite having cut out about a page and a half.
I really like when a project has me write. I want to do my senior project on writing so I try to practice whenever I can. So getting to practice writing is something that I got from this. Something this project helped me learn in writing specifically is that it's okay to write a lot. So it's okay to go overboard with how much you write. I did this but then found out I could just go back and cut out everything that I don't like and leave only what I like the most. A writing technique I'll definitely use again. If I could change my piece right now I'd do one of two things. One, I would make it longer because honestly I still have a lot more to say. Two I would rewrite it to be more like what my original idea suggested. I really feel that was a missed opportunity and want to go back to that prompt in the future. That's about it.
